How To: Recover Erased Data

Overview

Warning

  • The Zero Out Data tool erases data PERMANETLY. If data was cleared using this tool, it cannot be recovered.

Starting with firmware version 3.6.3, the eGauge meter prompts users to clear historical data after changes to the Installation page (Settings -> Installation). This helps new installs by removing inaccurate pre-configuration data. However, users may accidentally hide data without realizing it. Fortunately, the data isn’t erased—just hidden. This article explains how to recover it.

Prerequisites

  • Must be on firmware version 3.6.3 or higher
  • The following prompt will appear immediately after clicking "Save" on the Installation page for any meter running firmware version 3.6.3 or later. The recovery steps after this point assume the user has clicked "OK" on this prompt.

Instructions

Step 1: Click the menu(≡) in the upper left, then select Setup → Other Settings

Step 2: Under "Date & time when recording started", enter the date and time when recording actually started (generally when the meter was installed). Then click Save at the bottom.

If you're unsure when the meter actually started recording valid data, follow these steps.

Step 1: Set "Date & time when recording started" to a point far in the past (eg, 1/1/2020 12:00am), then click Save.

Step 2: Once saved, click on the Home button in the upper right.

Step 3: Now change the time period to 'all (since inception)

Step 4: Now you'll be able to see when the eGauge first started recording data. Use your mouse to click at the very start of the data. Then below the graph you'll see the date and time.

Step 5: Go back to the Settings page and update ‘Date & time when recording started’ then click Save.
