Overview
The eGauge offers support for multiple sets of credentials. In addition, credentials can have varying permission levels. This article covers adding and removing credentials, changing passwords, and the varying permission levels available. eGuard users also have the ability to perform password resets through eGuard.
Prerequisites
- Valid login credentials to the eGauge meter are required to change any settings. In the event of lost or misplaced credentials, eGauge support can assist with password resets provided the eGauge is online and connected to the eGauge proxy server. Proof of ownership may be required.
Instructions
Meter level login credentials are managed in the Access Control page of the eGauge meter settings. To access this settings page follow the steps below:
Step 1: From the Main Menu navigate to Setup → Other settings:

Step 2: Click Access Control from the list of items at the left:

Step 3: Depending on the action you wish to take, continue to the appropriate steps below:
Add a new user login
Step 1: On a blank line, create a new username, click Save at the bottom of the page to set the username. Usernames are case sensitive can only contain letters, numbers or the underscore character ‘ _ ’

Step 2: Choose the permission level from the drop-down list. For permission level details, please see the section of this article related to Permission Levels

Click Save at the bottom of the page to set the permission level. You won't be allowed to move to setting the password until the permission level is saved.
Step 3: Click the Change Password button. Set the password by typing it in the New Password field, and typing it a second time in the confirmation field. Â
- Passwords must be a minimum of six characters and can include letters, numbers and special characters.

The Old password field can be left blank when creating a brand new login.
Use the Show password in clear text option if you'd like to reveal the password while you're typing it.

Step 4: Click Set to set the password and finalize the login creation. If you're prompted to log in, you must use existing credentials to create the new login account.
Edit a user login
- Existing login permission levels and passwords can be changed if needed. Â The username cannot be edited once an account is created. Â To complete a username change, remove the account and create a new one.
Step 1: Locate the account you'd like to edit on the Access Control settings page.
Step 2: If the permission level needs to be changed, choose the new setting from the dropdown and click Save at the bottom of the page. The password will remain the same unless step 3 is completed.

Step 3: If the password needs to be changed, click the Change Password button and enter the old password in the appropriate field. Type the new password in the appropriate field and type it again to confirm.

Click Set to apply the new password. Click Cancel to go back and leave the same password in place.
Remove a user login
- Once a login is deleted it cannot be recovered. If a login account is deleted in error you must add it back to the settings as a new user login.
Step 1: Locate the account you want to delete on the Access Control settings page.
Step 2: Click the X beside the Change Password button on the line of the account you want to delete from the meter.

Step 3: Click Save at the bottom of the page to apply the changes, click Reset to cancel.

Permission levels
eGauge meter login accounts can be set to set to several different permission levels.
- Allowed to view all data and change settings from anywhere: Allows the user to view data and make settings changes to the eGauge meter from a different network than where it's been installed via the eGauge proxy.
- Allowed to view data, change settings, and control devices from anywhere: Allows the user to view data and make settings changes to the eGauge meter from a different network than where it's been installed via the eGauge proxy. This permission also allows control of the PRM3 from within the eGauge interface.
- Allowed to view all data and change settings from LAN only: Allows the user to view data and make settings changes to the meter, but they must be accessing it from within the LAN where it's installed.
- Allowed to view all data and settings: Allows the user to view data and settings, but not to make changes to the meter settings.
- Allowed to view all data, but not settings: Allows the user to view recorded meter data, but not the settings.
- Restricted to username view: This permission level is only functional when used with the Classic Interface. It restricts the user to a specific chart view only.
Troubleshooting and Tips
Error messages:
- Password should be at least 6 characters long: Add more characters to your password so it contains at least 6 characters.
- New and confirmation password don't match: Ensure that the contents of the New password field and the confirmation field match. Use the ‘view password in clear text’ option if needed.
- Invalid username; must contain only letters, numbers, or `_': Only letters, numbers and the underscore character are valid to use in a username. Remove any invalid characters.
