How To: Reset a meter password through eGuard

Follow the steps in this article to reset a meter login password using eGuard.

Overview

Follow the steps in this article to reset a meter login password using the eGuard management tool.

Prerequisites

  • Administrator or Manager level access to the eGuard group that the meter you want to reset belongs to. If you're not a current eGuard user you will need to register an account by visiting: Account Registration

  • If the owner account password is reset using these steps, the password printed on the meter label will no longer be valid.  A factory reset will restore the settings as shipped.

  • The eGauge must be online.

Instructions

Step 1: Log into https://www.eGauge.net using the eGuard Login link at the upper right corner of the screen. Once logged in, navigate to eGuard → Portfolio from the top of the screen.

Step 2: Locate the device on which you wish to change the password in your portfolio.  For larger lists of devices, it may be necessary to use the eGuard filter functionality to find a specific meter, located in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

Step 3: Once you have located your device, click the blue notepad icon under the "Name" column, to the left of the device name.  Do not click the device name itself.  This will open the Device Page for that eGauge.

Step 4: Near the top left of the Device Page, there should be a dark blue "Reset Password" button.  If you do not see this button, your username does not have the appropriate permission level to change device passwords.

Step 4: On clicking the "Reset Password" button, a dialog box will appear.  From the dropdown menu, select the username you wish to perform a password reset on.

Click "Submit".  The dialog box will disappear, and a new line will appear at the top of the Device Page containing a temporary password.  This password should be changed as soon as possible.

Enable Remote Administration

On older meters, you may need to enable remote administration by clicking the "Enable Remote Administration" button under the Reset Password section. This enables remote administration to the first user configured in Settings → Access Control.

Troubleshooting and Tips

  • Issue: You receive an error in the meter saying "Sorry, you are not authorized..."
    • Solution: Enable remote administration prior to performing the password reset.
