Why do I see negative generation over night?

Answer

Inverters need power to operate, even when in standby mode. When there’s no energy production—such as at night or when panels are covered by snow—this power is drawn from the utility, resulting in negative generation readings (which actually represent inverter consumption). If an eGauge is correctly configured, this overnight consumption will be included in the total site usage and does not require manual adjustment.
