How To: Set the APN on an IR302 cell modem

Overview

  • If you're using your IR302 with a cell plan purchased from eGauge you should not need to complete these steps. These steps are typically only needed when the router is used with a cell plan sourced elsewhere.

In-hand IR302 cell modems sold by us are confirmed to work with the data plans that we resell.  When using this model with other carrier's data plans it may be necessary to confirm hardware compatibility with the carrier's network.

Depending on the cell plan in use, the APN may need to be set on the IR302 in order to connect to the cell network.  Follow the steps in this article to adjust the APN setting on your cell router to use the APN provided by your cell carrier.

Prerequisites

  • Confirm with the cell carrier that the IR302 hardware is compatible with their cell network.
  • Confirm the correct APN settings with the carrier.
  • A laptop with an Ethernet connection is needed to connect directly to the IR302 cell modem.

Instructions

Step 1: Connect PC to router, open web browser and go to 192.168.2.1 (if this doesn't work, try incognito mode with http://192.168.2.1).  Log in with default username and password on the label of the router (adm/123456)

Step 2: Go to Network → Cellular.

Step 3: Confirm SIM1 Network Provider is Profiles 1.

Step 4: Scroll to the bottom of the page on the profiles table, click on the blank below APN to edit, set APN to desired value. Note: Make sure you click on the blank on the same row as Index 1.

Step 5: Click OK on the right and apply on the bottom.

Troubleshooting and Tips

  • Issue: My SIM is active but I still don't have Internet access
    • Solution: Reach out to your cell provider and verify that you're using the correct APN
