How To: Install the Display Caster

The eGauge Display Caster provides an easy method display an eGauge meter device interface on a TV or monitor via HDMI through an easy-to-use interface.

The Display Caster has a USB input for power, USB inputs for keyboard and mouse for initial configuration, and an HDMI output to connect to a TV or monitor. Network/internet connection can be obtained through built-in 2.4GHz WiFi or an Ethernet-direct connection.

Once the Display Caster is configured, the saved eGauge device interface will be displayed after automatically recovering from a power outage or communication loss.

Follow the steps in this guide to install the eGauge Display Caster. Be sure to read the user manual that came with your Display caster as there is information specific to different versions.

Prerequisites

  • The eGauge meter used with the Display caster must be connected to the network.
  • You will need a USB mouse and keyboard to configure the Display Caster
  • You will need a TV or monitor with an available HDMI port to connect the Display Caster to.
  • The default password for the display caster is printed on the paper attached to the manual, as well as inside the box with the eGauge Display Caster. The password can be changed during setup.

Instructions

Before beginning, check that you have all of the included parts:

* Versions shipped prior to 2023-08-18 include a Micro-USB to USB-A cable, 120V to Micro-USB adapter, and HDMI cable instead

Step 1: Connect your keyboard and mouse to the Display Caster USB input ports.  Any of the 4 USB ports can be used:

USB inputs for keyboard/mouse and LAN port for network

 

If using a wired LAN connection to the network, connect the Ethernet cable to the LAN port.

Step 2: Connect the included micro-HDMI to HDMI cable to one of the the Display Caster Micro-HDMI output ports. Either output port can be used:

USB-C port for power (1) and micro-HDMI output (2)

 

Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to an available HDMI port on the television or monitor. Consult the display manufacturer instructions to switch the display to the correct input.

 

Step 3: Apply power using the 120V supply adapter, or USB-A-to-USB-C cable to the USB-C power input.

 

Step 4: Configure network, timezone, and device to display and save as default (see Display Caster Manual for software setup information).

 

  • Do not leave keyboard/mouse, or USB ports accessible in public kiosk display. 
 

 

Performing a factory reset: 

Connect a keyboard and enter the factory reset code for your version of the display caster. You may need to try multiple key combinations depending on when your display caster was purchased. There is no danger in entering a key combination for a different model.

  • Current model: ctrl+shift+f simultaneously.
  • Previous model: shift+escape, f, r, tab one at a time.
  • Legacy model: ctrl+shift+j simultaneously.

Troubleshooting and Tips

  • Follow the Display Caster Manual for software setup.
  • Ensure the time zone is set correctly.
  • Ensure the default kiosk is saved.
