Network

Network Setup includes settings related to the eGauge proxy service. local WiFi settings, NTP and advanced features related to SSL certificates.

Proxy server

  • Adjusting this setting is not recommended
  • eGauge.io service requires a minumum firmware version of 4.5.6
  • eGauge.io is compatible with EG4xxx meters and newer.  Not compatible with EG3xxx or eGauge2 models.

The eGauge proxy service acts as a relay between the Internet and the local meter interface to serve data remotely. The proxy server hostname is configured on the Proxy Server Setup page.

Older EG4xxx meters that shipped before the eGauge.io service was released may not have any settings configured in this section.  Enabling this option and setting the proxy server hostname to: proxy.egauge.io will allow the meter to connect to the eGauge.io service.

For more information regarding the eGauge.io service please see: eGauge.io Service

Time

eGauge meters use NTP to keep the date and time current. For more information regarding NTP settings and behavior please see: Network Time Protocol

  • Click the ‘Rearrange’ icon to rearrange or delete rows.
  • Click the ‘Add’ icon to configure an additional NTP server by IP address or server host name.

For more information regarding NTP please see: NTP & Date and Time Configuration

Web-client (Advanced)

Certificate checking is enabled by default in this section.

  • Warning! Disabling this option may be a security risk and should only be done by IT professionals who are familiar with the risks associated with man-in-the-middle attacks. That is, the meter may end up connecting to a server that is not actually the intended target.

Web-server (Advanced)

Click Upload HTTPS certificate to upload a custom HTTPS certificate to the meter if necessary.

For full SSL certificate upload steps and technical information, please see: How to: Add Custom HTTPS Certificates

Wi-Fi (EG42xx meters)

The EG42xx can be configured to connect to a WiFi network. This section displays visible WiFi networks within range of the eGauge meter.

If the eGauge is already connected to a WiFi network within range, that network will be marked with the word ‘Connected’ in green text.

Tap or click a listed network to connect to it. Secure networks will require a password.

Tap or click on the Add network button in the upper right corner of the page to add an invisible WiFi network & complete the required fields.

  • Network name (SSID): This is the name of the existing Wifi Network to connect to.
  • Security: Choose the type of security on the existing network. WPA/WPA-2 Personal or None.
  • Password: Wifi Password provided by the network administrator or owner, if network is secured.

  • Note:  WiFi networks must be within range of the eGauge to connect. Adding a network that is not ‘visible’ due to it being out of range will not force the eGauge to connect to it.

For information regarding connecting a WiFi enabled eGauge to a WiFi network using the built in Access Point function, please see: How to: Connect EG42xx to a WiFi Network
