How To: Assemble the PEK-120

Follow the steps in this article to assemble the PEK-120 Powered Enclosure Kit

Overview

This guide describes one method of installing the components in the 120V PEK. Remember that parts may be used in a variety of ways to meet specific installation needs. The PEK comes unassembled.

  • We recommend test fitting all components in the enclosure to mark hole locations first. Drill holes for conduit, wires, and other external pieces prior to installing components within the enclosure.
  • Cellular and WiFi antennas should be connected outside of the enclosure. If installed outdoors, ensure the seals are water-tight.

Prerequisites

Before beginning, check that you have all of the correct parts:

208parts.jpg
1x Polycarbonate hinged enclosure (Regular: 12"x10"x6" or XL: 16"x14"x7")
2x DIN rails, pre-attached to enclosure (not pictured)
1x  120V DIN rail receptacle (A)
5x Terminal blocks (B)
1x Terminal cover plate (C)
2x  Terminal end stop (D)
1x Wire set (15' ea. black, red, blue, white) (E)
4x DIN rail mounting screws & washers (not pictured)
1x eGauge DIN rail mounting kit (F)
not included     Ground wire, if applicable

Instructions

Step 1: Adjust the DIN rails if necessary

The two lengths of DIN rail should already be mounted in the enclosure. If assembling in a standard sized enclosure, use a Philips head screwdriver to move the Leftmost DIN rail to the middle position. Check to make sure both DIN rails are tightly fastened in place.

Step 2:  Assemble the terminal block

Connect the 5 gray terminal block pieces to the top of the Rightmost DIN rail. To connect the terminal block pieces to the DIN rail, hook the rounded connector under one side of the DIN rail and then press down firmly on the other side until the piece snaps into place as shown below.

Use the gray cover plate to cover the exposed end. Add a terminal end stop to either side of the terminal block.  Don't fully tighten the screws on the end stops as you may need to adjust them later.

Step 3: Install the 120VAC receptacle

Attach it lower down on the Right DIN rail. Use the images at the beginning of this article for guidance on placement.

Cut lengths (approximately 7” long) from the white and black section of colored wire. Connect L1/N from the lower connections of the power block to the 120VAC receptacle. The hot connects to the "+" or "HOT" position and the plain white wire connects to the "-" or "NEU" or neutral position.

Use a small flathead screwdriver as shown to depress the port tabs, insert the wire end then release to secure. If using a 3-prong grounded power adapter, connect a ground wire from an unused terminal block to the GND connection on the receptacle.

Step 4: Attach the optional powered hardware to the lower half of the center-mounted DIN rail. Cell routers sold by eGauge include an installed DIN clip.

Step 5: Attach the eGauge above the cell router using the eGauge DIN rail mounting kit. The mounting kit can be used to orient the eGauge as "flat" mount as shown in the image, or the optional L bracket can be used to mount the meter vertically with the CT ports facing outward to the front of the enclosure. For more detailed information regarding assembly please see: DIN Rail Mounting Kit

Step 6: Connect the power adapter for the cell router (or other equipment) to the 120VAC receptacle and the Ethernet cable to the eGauge.

The receptacle is used to power accessory hardware within the enclosure

Step 7: Connect eGauge AC Voltage

Cut lengths (approximately 7” long) from each section of colored wire. Use these to connect the five pin power plug on the eGauge to the upper ports of the terminal blocks. For U.S. 120/208V NEC color coding, the white wire should connect to the “N” terminal, black to “L1”, red to “L2”, and blue to “L3” (if applicable).

Important

  • Make sure the service neutral is connected to the N terminal on the power block.

Step 7: Connect Panel Voltage to the PEK

Cut lengths (approximately 7” long) from the white and black section of colored wire. Connect these to the 120VAC receptacle

Wire the terminal block to the breakers or fuse block of the distribution panel being measured. If using a grounded receptacle, be sure to connect the ground wire to the correct terminal block.
