How To: Configure a kVAr Register

Follow these steps to record reactive power

Overview

Reactive power can be calculated using a formula register.

Prerequisites

  • To complete the steps in this guide you will need to have access to the meter interface and valid login credentials.
  • This is an advanced configuration topic.  If you are unfamiliar with eGauge configuration please see the Getting Started section for first steps.

Instructions

Step 1: Create a standard Power register for the equipment being monitored.

Example power register for a 3-phase load

Step 2: Click the power sub-type selector box to the right of the "P" box:

Step 3: Choose "* Record apparent power" and press OK:

Step 4: Add a new register, change the "P" box to an equals sign for a formula register, choose "react. power [var]" as the unit, and enter a formula of:

VAr($"registername", $"registername*")

where registername is the name of the power register. Note the asterisk (*) on the end of the second register name - this references the apparent power register.

Step 5: Save your changes and reboot the eGauge if prompted.
