BACnet register map and PICS

The eGauge does not have a fixed BACnet register map. Instead, registers are mapped as they are created. Thus, the map for two different eGauge meters will differ based on the number of registers and the order they were added in. Registers are organized into groups, which are defined below.

  • The BACnet PICS (Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement) may be found here. The article you are viewing has more "human-friendly" information for the BACnet data meters provide.

  • This document applies to Firmware version 4.7.9 or newer. Earlier versions may behave differently.
  • If a static IP address is used with an incorrect broadcast address, BACnet communication may not function properly and the meter may not be discoverable.

Address Range Group Description Measured Value
0x20000 Group 1 - The RMS voltage of the voltage-taps can be read through this group.     Voltage [V]

0x30000 Group 2 - The RMS current measured by each sensor/CT can be read through this group.     Current [A]
0x50000 Group 3 - The frequency of the voltage-taps can be read through this group. Line Frequency [Hz]
0x60000 Group 4 - Contains only the object ID 0x60000 and it reports the number of seconds since BACnet daemon startup. The daemon starts after enabling BACnet support through the UI or after power-cycling. Timestamp [s]
0x70000

Group 5 - Reports the value of each virtual register in the order in which they appear in the installation settings page. That is, the first virtual register is at address 0x70000, the second at 0x70001, and so on.

The values reported here are time-weighted. For example, a register measuring power would be reporting energy in watt-seconds here. As a special case, if the "Energy unit" checkbox in the BACnet Settings page is enabled, the energy would be reported as kilo-watt-hours (kWh) instead.

  • Deprecation notice: In this address range, the virtual register rates are followed by the physical register rates, also in the order in which they appear in the installations settings page. Since this order is volatile, we recommend accessing physical registers through group 9 instead.
REGVAL [various]
0x80000

Group 6 - Reports the rate-of-change of each virtual register in the order in which they appear in the installation settings page. For example, a register measuring power would be reporting the average power for the most recent update interval here. The power would be reported in watts.

Similarly to Group 5 the first virtual register is at address 0x80000, the second at 0x80001, and so on.

  • Deprecation notice: In this address range, the virtual register values are followed by the physical register rates, also in the order in which they appear in the installations settings page. Since this order is volatile, we recommend accessing physical registers through group 10 instead.
REGCHG [various]
0x90000 Group 7 - Mean Voltages - mean (DC) voltages for voltage inputs     Voltage [V]
0xa0000 Group 8 - Mean Sensor Values - mean (DC) values for sensor/CT inputs Current [A]
0xb0000 Group 9 - Reports the value of each physical register, indexed by register ID. These values are time-weighted the same as Group 5. REGVAL [various]
0xc0000 Group 10 - Reports the rate-of-change of each physical register for the most recent update interval. The power would be reported in watts the same as group 6, indexed by register ID. REGCHG [various]

Additional Tips:

  • We recommend enabling checkbox Report cumulative values relative to start of recording in the BACnet settings. This ensures the values start at zero at the time recording started (as set by "Date & time when recording started" in the General Settings page).
  • The physical unit for each BACnet address can be obtained by reading the "unit" property (BACnet property 117) from that address. Similarly, the name can be obtained by reading the "name" property (BACnet property 77) from that address.
