How To: Configure a Static IP Address

Guidance for configuring the eGauge to use static IP settings.

Overview

The eGauge by default comes configured for DHCP which is appropriate for most installations. However, it may be necessary on some occasions to set the eGauge to use static IP information provided by the network administrator at the install site. Follow the steps in this guide to change these settings.

Prerequisites

  • Static IP settings should be provided by the network administrator or other IT staff at the installation site. Using incorrect network settings can cause connectivity problems on the entire network. eGauge support cannot provide these settings.
  • To properly configure eGauge network settings you will need:
    • IP address to set the eGauge to.
    • Network mask
    • Network address
    • Broadcast address
    • Gateway address
    • At least two valid DNS entries are recommended
  • If the eGauge cannot obtain an IP address via DHCP, direct connection with a computer will be needed for configuration. For details see: Direct connect guide
  • Managed networks may require security exceptions to be made to allow the eGauge to reach out to the proxy service. Provide eGauge Network Connections documentation to local IT staff.

Instructions

Step 1: Access the Network Settings page from the main menu by navigating to Setup → Other settings, then click Network Settings to the left.

Step 2: Disable the Automatically obtain address with DHCP option by clicking to remove the check mark.

Disable this option to edit the IP information fields.

Step 3: Fill in the fields with the values provided by network administration.

  • Do not edit the Hostname field to maintain connectivity to the eGauge proxy service. If this field needs to be edited, contact eGauge Support.
